The proposal seeks not only to improve nautical services, but also to open the space to the public, integrating the port with the town and turning it into a meeting point for residents and visitors.

The mayor of Baiona, Jesús Vázquez Almuiña, met on Thursday, May 8, with representatives of the nautical company Nauplia and representatives of the Puertos de Galicia entity to address the execution of the first phase of actions planned for the Baiona Marina, concerning the infill over the water surface, an action included in the Special Planning Scheme for the Port of Baiona, approved in 2015 and published in the BOPPO on June 1 of the same year.

The execution of the esplanade will increase the platform surface by 4,649.44 m², for a total of 11,788.00 m², representing approximately 39% of the total surface approved in the port’s special plan.

The works will begin in mid-May and continue until the start of the summer season in July, resuming in September and continuing until completion in 2026, as stipulated in an execution program coordinated with the Concello de Baiona.

To ensure pedestrian and road safety, which increases during the summer season, the Concello has implemented a traffic plan adapted to this occasion, with a second phase pending that includes the construction and organization of the service platform.

The Concello de Baiona, following the guidelines set by the Ministry for Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge, has processed and defined the operational procedures, as outlined in the “Compatibility Report with the Marine Strategy” issued in September 2024.

Within the framework of the planned action, the ten requirements set out in the report must be fully met, paying special attention to those referring to the need to avoid impacts on species protected by Royal Decree 139/2011 and Law 42/2007, the application of measures to prevent turbidity and sedimentation in sensitive areas, the correct implementation of the project’s environmental monitoring plan, and compliance with the conditions established by the General Directorate of Biodiversity regarding the SPA ES0000554, “Western Galician-Cantabrian Migratory Corridor,” integrated into the Natura 2000 Network.

The Concello has held several meetings with representatives of the Nautical Association Bahía de Baiona, the Marina Users Association, the Business Association (ACEBA), and the Fishermen’s Guild, in order to present the scope of the project with complete transparency. These meetings have allowed for an open and direct exchange of information, ensuring that all parties involved are properly informed.

The Concello de Baiona views positively the organization of the nautical-sports facilities, considering that the current situation generates a negative visual impact on the municipality’s waterfront. In this regard, the Concello is committed to a development model that respects the environment, based on rigorous monitoring and compliance with all environmental protection requirements, in line with the principles of sustainable development and blue growth that inspire our government action.
